Salernes is the centre for the production of the famous hexagonal Provençal floor-tiles known as tomettes, but the numerous potteries of Salernes also produce a great variety of other ceramics. Salernes is situated between hills and so enjoys an agreeable climate for most of the year. There is a market twice a week - Wednesday and Sunday mornings - under the plane trees in the main village square of Salernes. The antique fountains are complemented by Saint-Pierre - the 11th century church. Many walking and cycle routes around the area invite one to explore the surrounding countryside of Salernes. Not far (23km) from Salernes is the large town of Draguignan with all its amenities.
